About

The story of LexiSmash: from a game made for a party with friends to an online party game in six languages, developed in Pesaro, Italy.

LexiSmash is an independent project created by Francesco Rombaldoni, a Computer Science and Digital Innovation student at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, and developed in Pesaro, in the Marche region of Italy.

How it started

It all began with a party. For the first of May, an activity was needed for the guests, something simple that would involve everyone. The inspiration came from a British TV series featuring a letter game to be solved against the clock.

The first version was little more than an experiment: a game put together quickly for that evening. It worked, and from there came continuous refinement. A very simple first web version, then new rules, then the ability for everyone to play together from their own phones. The project started in April 2026 and by June had become a complete web application.

From a party to a game library

The next goal was a game suited to an evening at a game library, with many participants at the same time. One evening at the Pesaro game library, a projector and the phones of the people there were enough for a match with about twenty players.

LexiSmash sits halfway between two worlds: the live party game, with a Master running the match in real time, and the online game, played from anywhere, even alone against virtual opponents. Its many game modes let every room be shaped to the kind of challenge you want, from a night with friends to a classroom lesson.

A technology lab

LexiSmash is also a playground for experimentation. Many features came from the wish to understand how to build them: real-time play for dozens of people, six languages, Voice Mode, support for gamepads, smart TVs and virtual reality, and installation as an app. The game keeps growing, and every new feature is described in the News section.
