LexiSmash frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions: what you need to play, how many people can join, accounts, languages, devices and privacy.

What do I need to play?

A device with a browser for the Master (computer, tablet or smart TV) and a phone for each player. Nothing needs to be installed: the game runs directly in the browser. If you prefer, you can install it as an app from the “Game Tools” page.

How many people can play together?

From one to several dozen. The Master sets the maximum number of players for the room. The game has been tested with groups of about twenty people connected at the same time.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play as a guest, without signing up. An account, created with Google or GitHub, keeps your name, profile picture and statistics from one match to the next, and gives access to features such as the leaderboard and messages between players.

Which languages can I play in?

Six: Italian, English, French, German, Spanish and Dutch. This applies both to the interface and to the game itself: the dictionary, the letters to draw and the scores change with the language the Master chooses for the room.

How are words checked?

Each word is looked up in the dictionary of the room’s language. The Master can decide which word categories are allowed (for example, excluding proper nouns) and, during correction, can manually approve a valid word the dictionary doesn’t know. The game dictionaries are public and anyone can suggest corrections.

Can we play remotely?

Yes. Each participant uses their own device, so the game works both in the same room and at a distance, for example during a video call. There are also public rooms, listed in the lobby, that anyone can join.

Can I play alone?

Yes: the Master can add bots to the room, virtual opponents with adjustable skill.

Is it suitable for children and schools?

Yes. There is no minimum age: with Simplified Mode, a hint appears after a few seconds without an answer, so even the youngest can take part. The Master, for example a teacher, controls the rules and the correction of words.

Does it work on a smart TV, with a gamepad or by voice?

Yes. TV Mode enlarges text and buttons and allows navigation with the remote; the Master can also run the match with a gamepad; Voice Mode reads screens aloud and lets you play with voice commands. Colour filters are also available for anyone who has trouble telling some colours apart.

What happens if the connection drops?

The match goes on. Anyone who loses their connection can rejoin and take back their seat with the points already earned; the Master too can reload the page and resume the match where it left off.

What is a streak?

Players with an account have a streak: playing at least one real game a day for five days in a row earns experience points (XP), with a bonus that grows when streaks are chained. A streak “day” follows the player’s time zone, locked when the streak begins: if it changes during a streak, the streak breaks (Premium players get one day of grace and keep their streak even if the time zone changes).

Is LexiSmash free?

The game can be used for free. There is an optional Premium account, which removes advertising and offers a few perks, activated with a promo code.

How is personal data handled?

The game only collects the data needed for it to work and, for account users, the profile data. All the details are in the privacy policy.
