🎙️ A Game You Can Listen To (and Play by Voice)
The new Voice Mode reads every screen out loud and lets you play, answer, and type using only your voice.
Not everyone can, or wants to, keep their eyes glued to the screen for an entire match. Starting today, a new button has joined the accessibility row at the bottom of the screen: a speaker icon that turns on Voice Mode, built especially for players who have trouble seeing the screen, but handy for anyone who wants to play “by ear.” It’s off by default and changes nothing until you turn it on.
Once enabled, the game reads every screen out loud as it opens: the title, the key information, and the list of available buttons. The very first time you turn it on, before anything else, a short welcome message explains how the mode works — it won’t play again after that.
From there, you can play without touching anything: saying the exact name of a button you just heard read aloud activates it, and confirmation popups (like “are you sure?”) can be closed just by saying “yes” or “no.” For text fields like your nickname and room code, a dedicated keyword (“name” or “code”, depending on the field) opens dictation: whatever you say right after becomes the field’s content, read back to you for confirmation before moving on.
In Integrated Mode, Voice Mode reaches all the way to the game table: you can ask for a vowel or a consonant out loud, have the board and scores read back at any time, dictate your final word (again with a confirmation read-back), and submit it with a separate command, so a misheard word never gets sent by accident. The game also announces out loud when it’s your turn, no need to check the screen.
